Working on my ebook re. a 13-year journey to run a marathon. I happened across this clip from the 2007 Chicago Marathon. A true rendering of events. For the 8:00 AM start, the temperature was 88 degrees with 80 percent humidity. Naturally, the event ran out of water for the runners. Here's my race report chronicling this back-in-the-day sultry event.

YIKES!!!!!! What a mess! No recycling bins!? Apart from the water issue, there's precious little civic mindedness.
Races tend to wait 'til the end to tidy up.
This one was quite poorly planned.
Oh. Okay. I'm not a racer, so the routine is foreign to me. Still, in such high temps, running is not a good idea. Heat stroke, quick dehydration, added to by NOT enough water and Gatorade. Like you said, Poorly planned.
My cousin's husband was a Chicago Fire Chief.
He said they cancelled the race after running out of ambulances for
heat cases.
A most memorable race.
I bet!
Still, anyone with sense would have said NO to RUNNING in weather where even a WALK around the block would have been physically taxing because of the humidity. Oh well. Ya live ya learn.
After training 16 weeks for a marathon, putting in all those miles, it usually takes more
than hot weather to deter a runner.
I blame the race organizers. They took our money. They had
access to the weather. They should've stocked up.
Good point! (Race organizers) .
Bless you runners. You guys define DETERMINATION. 🏃🏃♀️
