Story Du Jour #22

All Story Du Jour tales are available online and free! A small offering in these trying times.

Approx. 584 words

What the heck is happening to Reed's town?

Here's a sample of the writing:

"Something spooky and supernatural had hit his hometown hard. The frantic flow of explanations ranged from the town’s remote location in the hill country, to the strange quality of the water. Plus nuclear tests, an allegedly ancient witch tradition—that nobody had ever heard before—and, oh yes, the freaky El Nino. Reed hadn’t seen a normal human being in days.

Suddenly, the cloud took a left turn out of the gully and rolled up a grassy hill. At the crest, the cloud unraveled once more into the mist and faded into thin strips of fog. Reed’s eyes bugged. In the center of the hill stood a strange figure. The thing was humanoid, no doubt, but short and with a bulbous head, perfectly round, like a little aquarium. The bulb-headed thing lifted a thin arm and a tiny finger as though it dialed a phone. A spaceship materialized on the ridge."

Finally, a return to a truly short tale.

Note: A bit late, but my review of the Google Archipelago is up at last.

Wild! Kinda like E.T. meets Independence Day. As always, Thank you.

OH, FINALLY, I remember to ask! That animated post on the side, with a revamped Yosemite Sam and Elmer Fudd... is that part of the new WB Loonie Toonies re-boot? They look like the two guys from Men In Black. Never imagined Elmer Fudd looking 'COOL'. Go fig.

Actually, that's been around for awhile. I put it up because the NEW Warner Bros. wants
to remove all guns from Elmer Fudd cartoons.

For the children, of course.

OY VEY!!!! How many people who grew up watching Elmer Fudd and Yosemite Sam went on a bullet binge; taking aim at waskelly wabbits, varmints and whatever else?
Apart from water pistols, that got friends and siblings wet, no blood shed.

And what of all the people who grew up watching Bette Davis movies? Did all of them start chain smoking? Hmmm.... that might be a bad example. That said, I've seen many a Bette Davis flic without taking up the habit. Unless you count those candy ciggies. No lung cancer but my blood sugar was on the moon! 😉

Jim Henson said that there is a difference between violence and 'cartoon' violence. The people who are freaking out over Elmer Fudd's gun issues night also ban anvils and boulders, and trains that have taken out poor Wile E. Coyote more times than I can count.

More restrictive now than ever before.

You guys (Animaniacs' writers/producers) did an interview with Nostalgia Critic, and Sherri Stoner talked about The Wheel of Morality and you mentioned 'learned behavior' and the dangers of baseball bats and live sticks of dynamite.

Back then, there was still a flicker of (pardon the language) COMMON SENSE. These days, ya gotta wonder. I see ADULTS walking in the middle of the street. Some of them are wearing masks. They're afraid of a virus, but getting run over by a moving car or bus they're within five to ten feet of, no biggie. 🤦‍♀️

My brain is hurting.

Don't forget that engaging in a mass demonstration is allowable, but opening a barbershop isn't.

Uhhhhhh. Yuh. That makes SO MUCH SENSE. Because we all know that riotous mobs will be so law abiding and make sure to keep the six foot (2 Metre) rule.
Salons and barber shops on the other hand...ya never know what goes on in those places.

OY!!! 🤦‍♀️😵🤷🤦‍♀️
