Super Summer Book Sale 2

Day two dawns upon the super summer sale. Last night, I returned home and shopped. One of my purchases included tales of mecha, or giant robots. Think Pacific Rim. These limbed machines "are usually—but not always—large, humanoid vehicles controlled by a pilot. Mecha are commonly bipedal, although they come in a dizzying variety of shapes and sizes. There is some debate as to what qualifies as mecha and what doesn't. Much like art or pornography, one knows it when one sees it."

I don't read much mecha, but for free or 99 cents, I'm inclined to give it a try. One of my ebook selections last night was Adam S. Furman's Collateral Damage: A Kaiju Thriller. I'm familiar with kaiju. According to the Urban Dictionary, they are a "type of creature exceedingly common in Japan. Usually over 200 feet tall, they are known to frequently wander into cities and cause massive real estate damage."

The story is described thusly: Destructive Battles Rage Between Hellish Kaiju and Giant Mech Protectors.

The sides and the stakes are set. I'll review the tale in due course. But right now, I'm awash in ebooks—the sale is all ebooks—and six more shopping days remain.

Visit the sale. Explore new genres. Sample the wares of hard-working authors. More tomorrow.

New Hallow Mass Cover

Amazon

How New Is This Cover You Speak Of?

Quite new. For now, I present only the ebook version. But the paperback cover awaits the formatting of a manuscript I like to call Edition Two.

I've trimmed about 4k words from the 2016 book and think it reads considerably quicker.

Why Go To All This Trouble?

Excellent point. As of today, I'm writing the second volume of a trilogy. I hope to have it up in ebook and paperback by June. Afterwards, I intend to dash off the third volume. That should see the light of day by Christmas. Ambitious? Well, I'm nothing if not that.

In any case, I desired a uniform look for the covers. Progress continues.

Death Honk Launches on Draft2Digital

theimaginativeconservative

Pre-order is ended; pay full price. Not much. A buck more. But if you fancy shopping at Barnes & Noble, Apple, Kobo, or any store not named Amazon, then now is your opportunity to pounce upon a fine collection of creepy short stories.

My day will be filled with imploring various individuals to review the book. Like moving from one apartment to another, you must ask three or four times as many people to get one. Such are the days of an indie author.

Death Honk Short Horror Story Collection Now Live

 Murder! Mystery! Mayhem!

Sooner than I thought and just in time for Christmas, Death Honk launches on Amazon. This nine story anthology of dark and ominous doings, revenge, stupid brutality, transformation and justice awaits purchase and perusal. Still discounted over at Barnes & Noble, Apple, and other nice stores.

The paperback version advances with governmental torpor. The man formatting it lives in Pakistan. The cover artist can do no more until Pakistan delivers up the finished version and I have a page count. But these are small guppy-sized problems.

May your days be merry and bright!

Now Lurking on Amazon!

Dark Anthology Finally Coming Soon

 MAC'S DONE IT!

Six years ago I was convinced that I'd publish a dark anthology. A dark urban anthology. In fact, I was writing like a dervish, churning out copy at a rapid rate. But then Old Man Cancer came a'knocking and my writing—along with my health—cratered.

Well, my health is much improved and the copy is finally churned; nine stories at the starting gate with an eye to a December release. (Ebook only with the softcover arriving—God willing—in spring of 2021.) The stories do not match my 2014 line-up. Not all the tales occur in an urban setting. Nonetheless, in many respects, readers will benefit, thanks to a half dozen more years writing practice.

Right now I'm hustling to finish the front and back matter as well as seeing the 31,000-plus word manuscript receives a copy edit.

At the same time, I'm setting up preorders on Amazon and Smashwords.

At the same time, I hustle for reviews.

Here's a draft of the blurb:

Mayhem, Monsters, Madness!

Trespass boundaries, stray into eerie dimensions, mingle with the sinister and the lost in nine peculiar tales by award-winning author JP Mac.

Meet a naïve publisher drawn onto a path that could lead to the annihilation of Earth. Witness a high school student pay a crippling price for popularity. Watch a struggling director’s pursuit of a mysterious woman lead to enslavement in a twilight realm. Travel to a bizarre sporting event where a desperate young man must choose between self-respect or cosmic absurdity.

Five stories were published between 2010 and 2019, while an additional four were written especially for this collection. So park your body and throw your imagination into drive as weird adventures await.

More on this latest publishing odyssey quite soon.

Oh, and, at the same time, I shall keep writing another short story. One single-spaced page a day.

Word Press Website and Elementor

Part of my big plans from the other day may now be revealed: I'm almost finished building a Word Press website. Since I know nothing about tech beyond point-and-click, this task has been a vexing, interminable ordeal. I've already been hacked and had something unpleasant placed into my code, though this could be two separate intrusions.
(Most of my best bitching is on my Facebook author page. Scroll down past time-wasting videos.) Within a few days, I'll alert you to the launch of my bare bones site, no blog or email honey trap to build a big list, no shiny affiliate links. Just BUY THESE BOOKS!!

Upsell Jungle

That's Word Press "free" software for you. One upsell after the other. Since I have no idea whether I need this or that plugin, I fritter away hours checking everything out. I'll be grateful just to launch the freaking site and be shed of it for a time.

Website Ingredients

Here are the fixings:

Namecheap for my domain name--jpmacauthor.com (I'm still on a proxy site, finishing up the last touches.(

Bluehost for hosting. I tried HostGator and spent over an hour on the phone attempting one hack after another to get the thing installed. Finally, I learned that Safari isn't compatible with HostGator. That might've been helpful to know in advance.

Also, Safari is not 100% compatible with Bluehost. To access my control panel, I have to switch browsers to Firefox. Charming.

Word Press which you can sign-up for from Bluehost.

Elementor, a drag-'n-drop page builder. Upsell masters.

Submitting Short Stories Like It's 2009

If you want a cure for writer's block, build a website. You'll be so grateful to return to a discipline in which you have knowledge and experience and are not perpetually confounded with one step forward, eight steps sideways, and one hop in the air.

I've sent a short story off to Harbinger Press for an upcoming anthology and fired off a second tale today to a new fantasy/speculative fiction site.

Finally, I feel good about something.

More soon on my big running plans.
