Jury Doody Up on Amazon

Illustrated by D.C. Richter.
A short humorous essay on jury duty in Los Angeles, this wee piece breaks the ice and finally gets me established on Amazon. Why, they even gave me an author's URL. I celebrated last night by ordering a large pizza and watching Chinatown. (I know. Born to be wild.) I use a variation on the last line of that film as a subheading in my essay.

Thanks to law Professor Glenn Reynolds for the link to my Author Page. His Instapundit blog is a high traffic beast and is responsible for the following Jury Doody metrics:
Before I get too carried away, this is only the start. But after a year of hard work on a number of pieces, it's gratifying to finally see one live.

Bravo on the story!! Now I almost wish I had a Kindle. Maybe next year. I kinda want to get one, but I'm a slave to tradition. Then again, if I want to get published one fine, day, I'll have to push myself into the 21st century, kicking and screaming.

I'm guessing, by the spelling of the word Duty (doody) that something goes hilariously (or NOT so hilariously) amiss.

Okay. All right. You talked me into it! Income tax time, I will invest in a Kindle. :D And your book will be my first purchase.

Publishing a 22 page essay was a definite moral booster for me, as I'm worn down from this year's writing.

Do get yourself a Kindle. Stats are showing a growing number of people reading on Kindle or smart phones.

It's where the readers are going.

It's my understanding that you went from 50th place to #5 within attorney/criminal humor--in the span of a day or two.

Very true.

Today I cling to 9th in attorney/crime humor.

WOW!!!! That's a decent jump! And, yup. I'll be investing in a kindle in the new year. Hmmm...do those things come with 12 year olds to explain how they (kindle) works? Mind you, I'm not altogether sure how a 12 year old functions these days. ;)

Oh, one favor... IF you can, could you stop by my blog http://scribblerscentral.blogspot.ca/ and let me know how I'm doing with this fan fiction story. I'm FAIRLY sure I have the 'voices' of the characters down but could you let me know if you can 'hear' the characters in the dialogue?

I've heard it said that, as the character developed the writing process reversed to where you (and Gordon, Peter, Sherri, et al) heard the characters 'dictating' what they wanted you to write and you just scribbled it down.

Thankfully, my 'research' for this fan fiction amounts to watching a lot of Animaniacs and Pinky and the Brain. Not exactly a hardship. Billie was pretty easy, as she had a Brooklyn-ish accent. I think I may have gone too heavy into the German with Scratchy at times, but that helped me get his 'voice' so it worked for me. Brain was the easiest in terms of the dialogue, and yet the hardest, in terms of his disposition. I had to keep myself from feeding him to Rita, who isn't even in the story!

Anywho, IF you can give it a quick browse, it would be a help. No pressure. (She said, while holding the barrel of a gun to the back of his head.) ;) JP sense it was only a water pistol, but was it worth his life to call her bluff?

Sorry. Long day. Being silly.
